In a thrilling double-overtime showdown, the Boston Celtics emerged victorious over the Brooklyn Nets, showcasing their resilience and depth. The score, 130-126, was a testament to the intense battle that unfolded on the court.
Payton Pritchard, with his 32-point performance, and Jaylen Brown, contributing 27 points and 12 assists, were the catalysts for the Celtics' success. But it was the young Spanish rookie, Hugo González, who stole the show in the first extra period. With a mere 0.4 seconds left, González drained a clutch three-pointer, forcing a second overtime and sending the Celtics faithful into a frenzy.
The second overtime belonged to the Celtics, who never looked back once they took the lead. Anfernee Simmons' three-point play and Sam Hauser's timely three-pointer sealed the deal, ensuring a much-needed win for the Celtics, who have now won four out of their last five games.
For the Nets, it was a tale of near misses and close calls. Michael Porter Jr.'s 30 points and Nolan Traore's career-high 21 points kept them in the game, but it was Nic Claxton's putback dunk with 1.9 seconds left in regulation that truly showcased their fighting spirit.
However, the Nets, who have lost nine of their last ten games, couldn't quite pull off the upset against the second-place team in the Eastern Conference.
And here's where it gets controversial: With the Nets leading by five points with just 7.9 seconds left in the first OT, did the Celtics benefit from some fortunate calls? Pritchard's three-pointer and the subsequent foul on Traore, who only made one of his free throws, set up González's game-tying shot.
The Celtics' 13-3 run to close out the regulation period also raises questions about the Nets' defense and their ability to close out games.
So, what do you think? Was the officiating fair, or did the Celtics get some lucky breaks? And how much of an impact did the Nets' recent loss to the New York Knicks have on their performance against Boston?
