Anthony Weaver
Weaver, a 45-year-old former defensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins, is a strong candidate. However, his head-coaching aspirations might be a hurdle. Weaver has been actively interviewing for head-coaching positions with the Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns, Arizona Cardinals, and Las Vegas Raiders. Despite this, his defensive expertise is undeniable. Weaver has a successful track record as a defensive coordinator, having worked with the Houston Texans and Miami Dolphins in recent years. Jim Leonhard
Leonhard, 43, brings a unique perspective to the table. While he hasn't coached under either of the Harbaugh brothers, he played for John Harbaugh in 2008. Leonhard's experience as a defensive coordinator at Wisconsin and his current role as a defensive backs coach with the Denver Broncos make him a strong contender. However, timing might be an issue. The Senior Bowl is approaching, and the Giants' preference for a coordinated coaching staff by then could be a challenge for Leonhard, who is currently preparing for the AFC Championship Game with the Broncos.
Dennard Wilson
Wilson, 43, is familiar to the Giants and John Harbaugh. He served as Harbaugh's defensive backs coach in Baltimore in 2023 and interviewed for the Giants' job in 2024. However, he ultimately chose to take the defensive coordinator position with the Tennessee Titans. Wilson's defenses in Tennessee didn't rank highly, but the team's limited success can't be solely attributed to him. His experience and connection to Harbaugh make him a candidate worth considering.
Daronte Jones
Jones, a defensive backs coach and defensive pass game coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings, is an underdog in this race. He interviewed with Harbaugh and the Giants earlier in the week. Jones has a diverse coaching resume, having worked with the Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals, and the Vikings. His experience in various leagues, including high school, Division II, FCS, FBS, and the Canadian Football League, showcases his versatility. Jones has also drawn interest from the Dallas Cowboys, New York Jets, and Green Bay Packers, indicating his strong reputation in the coaching world.
